Governor Perry Delivers State of the State Address
Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 @ 12:00PM
Today, Governor Rick Perry gave his State of the State address to a joint session of the Texas Legislature.
In his speech, the Governor remarked, “the state of our State is stronger than ever,” and I agree. Yes, Texas faces some serious challenges, but we have fared better than some of the other states in our union, thanks in no small part to the leadership of our great state.
Today Governor Perry emphasized the need to strengthen our infrastructure. Both transportation and water are of paramount importance for Texas to maintain its competitive advantage. I have called for the use of some funding from the Rainy Day Fund to kick-start some of these projects, and I was glad to hear the Governor support this idea.
Yes, Texas is stronger than ever. But if we intend to stay this way, we must also address the education issues facing our state. Many of you know I have been calling for reforms to our education system, and today the Governor joined in on the conversation.
Overall, Texas has a bright and promising future ahead. I look forward to working with Governor Perry, Lt. Governor Dewhurst, and Speaker Straus to ensure Texas’ success.
